G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs), also known as seven transmembrane receptors, heptahelical receptors or 7TM receptors, comprise a superfamily of proteins that play a role in many different stimulus-response pathways. GPRs translate extracellular signals into intracellular signals (a process called G-protein activation) and they respond to a variety of signaling molecules, such as hormones and neurotransmitters. GPR41 (G-protein coupled receptor 41), also known as FFAR3 (Free fatty acid receptor 3), is a 346 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor family. Expressed at high levels in adipose tissue and at lower levels throughout the body, GPR41 functions as a receptor for short chain fatty acids via elevation of intracellular calcium levels and inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. Blocking peptides are peptides that bind specifically to the target antibody and block antibody binding. These peptide usually contains the epitope recognized by the antibody. Antibodies bound to the blocking peptide no longer bind to the epitope on the target protein. This mechanism is useful when non-specific binding is an issue, for example, in Western blotting (WB) and Immunohistochemistry (IHC). By comparing the staining from the blocked antibody versus the antibody alone, one can see which staining is specific; Specific binding will be absent from the western blot or IHC performed with the neutralized antibody.Formula:
