The Drosophila tumor suppressor protein lats (for large tumor suppressor) is a putative protein kinase that shares homology with three proteins in Neurospora and budding yeast that are involved in cell cycle and growth regulation: S. cerevisiae Dbf2 and Dbf20, and Neurospora cot-1. Mosaic screens in Drosophila have identified the lats gene as a tumor suppressor in this species. The human homolog, designated LATS1, was shown to inhibit tumor growth in lats-deficient Drosophila. Human LATS1 binds to Cdc2 in early mitosis and appears to negatively regulate the kinase activity of Cdc2. LATS1-deficient mice are highly sensitive to carcinogenic treatments and develop soft-tissue sarcomas and ovarian stromal cell tumors, indicating a role for mammalian LATS1 in tumorigenesis. Describe :

Blocking peptides are peptides that bind specifically to the target antibody and block antibody binding. These peptide usually contains the epitope recognized by the antibody. Antibodies bound to the blocking peptide no longer bind to the epitope on the target protein. This mechanism is useful when non-specific binding is an issue, for example, in Western blotting (WB) and Immunohistochemistry (IHC). By comparing the staining from the blocked antibody versus the antibody alone, one can see which staining is specific; Specific binding will be absent from the western blot or IHC performed with the neutralized antibody.
