Heme oxygenase (HO) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the catabolism of heme that results in the release of carbon monoxide, iron, and biliverdin. The products of this enzymatic reaction play important biological roles in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective functions. HO comprises two isozymes, including the constitutively expressed HO-2 isozyme and the inducible HO-1 isozyme. Inducible HO-1 is expressed as an adaptive response to several stimuli, including heme, metals, and hormones. The induction of HO-1 has been implicated in numerous disease states, such as transplant rejection, hypertension, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, endotoxic shock, diabetes, inflammation, and neurological disorders. Describe :

Blocking peptides are peptides that bind specifically to the target antibody and block antibody binding. These peptide usually contains the epitope recognized by the antibody. Antibodies bound to the blocking peptide no longer bind to the epitope on the target protein. This mechanism is useful when non-specific binding is an issue, for example, in Western blotting (WB) and Immunohistochemistry (IHC). By comparing the staining from the blocked antibody versus the antibody alone, one can see which staining is specific; Specific binding will be absent from the western blot or IHC performed with the neutralized antibody.
